Las Vegas, NV

Alexander “Al” Norton passed away peacefully, November 29, 2024, at the age of 86 in Las Vegas, NV. Heaven opened its gates to receive him home.

Al was born on April 15, 1938 to the late Willie Norton Sr and Sarah Lee Richardson Norton Polite in Ridgeland, South Carolina. He grew up in Ridgeland, SC with eleven siblings, all which preceded him in death.

Al left home at the age of 14 to further his ambition to work and support his parents. He served a short period of time in the US Army. With the death of his dad Willie Norton, he returned home to support and work the family’s farm. Al later moved up north to Brooklyn, New York to pursue a better opportunity in life. There he met and married Alcesta Martin in 1959. They had three sons together, Alexander Jr, Stanley and Theodore.

While in New York, Al found his passion in boxing and carpentry. He was a Golden Glove Champion had one professional bout. Due to financial hardships, Al decided to pursue his love for carpentry. Even with his 5th grade education, he attended Brooklyn Evening Technical Trade School and completed a course of carpentry from June 1960-1962. In 1964, Al decided to move his entire family to Long Island, NY. Incredibly, He built our home on Long Island in one year, by commuting on weekends and while on vacations from Brooklyn. Al also built the furnitures in our home as well. He always believe in being self-sufficient and grew his own vegetables in our large garden.

After many years in the construction industry, he decided to start his own company , the Black Brothers Building Corporation.

After many successful years as a carpenter and business owner, he retired in upstate New York at the lovely age of 52. There Al enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. After 40 yrs of marriage to our mom Alcesta, she died tragically as a result of a motor vehicle accident on April 13,1999.

In 2009, Al moved to Florida to pursue a warmer climate and to live out his remaining years. After 2 unsuccessful marriages, he finally met his sweetheart, Tina Guillemett

They have been together for the past 12 years.
