Alice P. Seyda

Alice P. (Kowalik) Seyda, 87 of Las Vegas, NV passed away peacefully at TLC Costa Brava on May 25, 2017 of Alzheimer's. Alice was born February 22, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana, daughter of Mary (Owczarzak) and Martin Kowalik, granddaughter of Katerina (Budnyk) and Martin Owczarzak. She was married for 62 years and is survived by her beloved husband John A. Seyda.
Alice graduated from Bishop Noll High School in 1948. She became a gifted cook by working at St. Casimir's church and rectory for the priests and she also worked in her mother's grocery store on Johnson St. in Hammond, IN. She married John Seyda on July 30, 1955 and often danced to big bands at Danceland in Hammond and O'Henry's Ballroom in Willow Springs, IL. While raising her six children, she attended St. Joan of Arc Church in St.Clair Shores, MI where she liked baking 3-layer German Chocolate cakes for the Sisters of St. Joseph. She later worked in Franklin, WI.
Alice and John enjoyed theatre, film, music and dining at exceptional restaurants. They travelled together to Austria, Switzerland, Vienna, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and New Orleans. She also went to Italy, Jerusalem and Israel with her sister Helen. Alice loved horseraces, with DelMar, CA and Keeneland, Lexington, KY being her favorites. She and John owned a racehorse for five years and attended the Derby Trials in Louisville. She valued precious time with her grandchildren, reading novels, walking, playing video poker and visiting the conservatory, atrium botanical garden and piano bar at the Bellagio. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and will be greatly missed.



She is survived by six children, Mary Jean Seyda (Maggie McGlynn), Barbara Seyda, Beth Seyda (Mark Tachman), Timothy Seyda, John Michael Seyda (Shannon Arnold Seyda) and James Seyda (Michael Carignan). She is also survived by her sister Teresa Kowalik (Dyer, IN), brother-in-law Kenneth (late Loretta) Meier (Dyer, IN), cousins Bob Ozarzack, Robert Ozarzack and Alice Anne Ozarzack and many nieces and nephews (Wozniaks, Meiers, Hughes and Diehls). Her grandchildren are Karly Seyda, Dylan Seyda Tachman (d. 1997), Tyler Seyda Tachman, John Michael Seyda Jr., Jake Seyda and Nicholas Seyda; sisters-in-law Helen (late James) Hughes, Irene (late Bill) Solivais, Mary (late Bruno) Kowalik and her dear friend Virginia (late Bill) Olson.
She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Casimir (Charles) Kowalik, Regina (Reggie) Kowalik, Bruno (Baldy) Kowalik, Helen (late Cecil) Drury, Jerome (Oscar) Kowalik, Mayme (late Edwin) Wozniak, Loretta (LaLa) Meier and Aloysius Kowalik.
Her wonderful spirit will be honored at a Celebration of Life Mass, 10 a.m., held on June 23, 2017 at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church, 7260 W. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas, NV, 89117. Interment of her ashes will be held at 1:20 pm, Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Dr., Boulder City, NV, 89005.
