We are heart-broken to announce that our dearest Mama Alicia Mijares Angeles Paras has joined our Creator on April 1, 2024 at the age of 79 at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.
Mama was on dialysis for almost 9 years.
Our Beloved Mama lived a full and glorious life. Mama was a beautiful woman inside and out with a golden heart. She was loving, caring, thoughtful, wonderful, awesome, and funny mother to us, a doting lolay or apu to her grandchildren, great grandchildren; a caring and faithful wife. She was also a loving, caring and thoughtful sister to her siblings. She was a strong, tough and independent woman.
Mama was neat and orderly, always cleaning and tidying up at home…most specially organizing her sewing materials such as her fabric and all. She loves indoor and outdoor plants and yellow roses were her favorite.
She was spoiled outrageously by her doting father. Above all, Mama was a true and faithful child of God.
We are forever grateful and lucky to have had the privilege to call her Mama.
Alicia was born on June 21, 1944 in Surigao, Surigao, Philippines to Eulogio Naluz Angeles, a taxi dispatcher at Clark Air Base, Angeles City, Philippines and Rosalinda Aniceto Mijares a homemaker. She was the second of 8 children. She married Epifanio Padilla Paras and were married for 44 years until he passed away on October 2008.
Alicia and her husband migrated to the U.S.A. on October 1993, resided in Irvine, California with their oldest daughter and family. In the year 2000, Mama and Tatang moved with their oldest daughter and 2 children when they relocated to Las Vegas. A few years later, she moved back to California to live with her youngest daughter and family for more than a decade and a half. Mama was caring, hardworking, tough, and also an awesome mother, grandmother to them. A true blessing to all.
Alicia discovered her passion for sewing at a young age. She really loved sewing and that’s her craft-she’s really good at what she could accomplished. Sewing became a career, turned into a livelihood. Mama was a hardworking mother.
Mama’s favorite diversions were playing mahjong, kwaho, bingo and slots games at the casinos.
Due to her declining health conditions and comorbidities that had increased rapidly and progressed, she moved to Las Vegas on June to August 2023. She was cared for by her children diligently. It required patience, understanding, time, efforts, sacrifices, compassion, strength, consideration, empathy, and lots of love for Mama to care and make her happy.
Mama was placed in a nursing home in California for 3 months. She was then in and out of the hospital while she was there.
Mama came back to Las Vegas again on November 2023, her sister helped in caring for Mama together with her 3 daughters alternately. She was also in and out of the hospital.
Mama’s last 23 days of her precious life was with her oldest daughter. Her last video was taken while she was eating brunch on March 31, 2024. The video was a greeting for Easter Sunday. She was speaking clearly, joyfully, funny, and consciously. It was a good laugh for her whenever she made mistakes. She memorized what she said on video.
