Andres Lucas Manuel

November 30, 1923 — October 31, 2019

Andres Manuel, born Nov 30, 1923. Passed away Oct 30 exactly 30 days short of his 96th birthday.

Birthplace is Banna, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
Married for 75 years plus to Maria Consolacion Manuel on May 27, 1944
Blessed with 3 daughters – Adoracion, Elizabeth, Myrna, and 2 sons – Edison and Henrich

He grew up in this small town of Banna, Ilocos Norte. In his late teenage years, Japan had colonized the Philippines. Andres, at the young age of 20 and armed with 2nd-year high school education, he married Consolacion.

After WW II, he joined the Philippine Scout. Under the command of the US Army’s 12th Infantry Division, he was assigned and served as part of the occupation forces in Okinawa, Japan. He served for 3 years in Okinawa. At 29, he came home to his wife with a 3-year old daughter. He got a job as a bookkeeper in his hometown municipality with the help of his father. He also dabbled in farming. In search of greener pasture, he went to Guam as a laborer and worked there for another 3 years. He did construction work. Upon coming home, he was fortunate to return to his old job back in his hometown. As a supplement to his means of income, he also continued farming.

By 1964, he decided, at the age of 41 with a wife, 3 young-to-teenage daughters and a 4-year old son, to uproot the whole family and moved to the southern part of the Philippines, in a small town of Mawab, Davao del Norte. Similarly, he found a job at the town municipality as a bookkeeper in the Treasurer’s office and of course, a part-time farmer.

After 14 years or so, he and his wife immigrated to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1978. He immediately got a job as a “busboy” at Marriott Restaurant by Honolulu International Airport. He stayed very dedicated to his job until his retirement in 1990. As physically able and wanting to earn extra money to supplement his pension, he continued to work part-time as janitor servicing many hotels in Waikiki.

In late 2005, again the extended family moved here in Las Vegas where he finally settled in. Since already retired, his grandkids kept him busy. He loved being with them. Hobbies are gardening, always had some kind of vegetable plants in the backyard. When not outside, he loved to watch sports on TV, especially basketball, football, baseball and believe it or not WWE (Wrestling). Very huge fan of wrestling.

To sum it all up, he’d be best remembered as a true model of what a family man and father would be - very loving and caring husband as evident by 75 years of marriage to his wife, Consolacion, great father to all his 5 children providing them means of livelihood and education so they could be on their own, awesome grandpa to all his 8 grandkids taking care of them as they grew up and enjoying visits from his 4 great-grandkids. Again, he’s a true family man.
