Annice Compton O'Donnell

July 17, 1933 — May 17, 2017

Annice Compton O'Donnell, of Las Vegas, passed away May 17, 2017. She was born July 17, 1933, in Anna, Texas. Her family moved from north Texas to Corpus Christi and then to Houston after World War II. After graduating from Houston's Reagan High School, she attended Rice University where she met and married the love her life, Gary Thomas O'Donnell. Annice and Gary celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June, 2013. Gary preceded Annice in death in December, 2013.

After having their four children, Annice graduated from Rice University in 1962. Then she immediately began her career in education as a social studies teacher in the Houston Memorial School District. The O'Donnell family moved to New Braunfels, Texas, in 1966 where Annice continued to teach school at both New Braunfels Junior High and High School. She completed her Master's Degree in History at Southwest Texas State University in 1970. The family then moved to San Antonio in 1973 and then to Austin in 1975. While in Austin, Annice worked with Gary to create O'Donnell Homes. During that time period Annice received her Ph.D. in Education at the University of Texas at Austin.

In the 1980s they moved to Las Vegas to enjoy retirement, but their multiple retirements never lasted long as both Gary and Annice would become bored. Annice worked for several companies in the Las Vegas area and finished her long, prestigious career working for Raytheon where she was a technical writer and employee trainer. Throughout her life Annice was recognized by colleagues as a brilliant and successful career woman, and at the same time she balanced a busy home life with a husband and four children. Annice (known as Comp, Compton, Compie, and Marnie) will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her passion for education and knowledge was only overshadowed by her passion for family. She is survived by her children, Carel (Bruce) Carter, Lori (Mike) Sarabyn, Cindy (Ben) Carmine, Tom (Anni) O'Donnell; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Liberty Lawson, Jeremy Lawson, Lindsay Lawson, Chris Carter, Carl Carter, Andrea Brundage, Thomas Carmine, Shannon LeConey, Kasey O'Donnell, Kaylee O'Donnell, Gary O'Donnell, Lexas Legge, Steven Legge, Mackenzie Carter, and John Carmine.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas. A celebration of life will follow at the home of her daughter, Carel Carter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Annice Compton O'Donnell's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
