Barbara Jean Nettles

July 30, 1941 — March 17, 2025

Las Vegas, Nevada

Barbara J. Nettles was born July 30, 1941 in Mantee, Mississippi to the late Leno Jennings and Margie Valliant Jennings. She was the youngest of five children. She came to Christ at an early age, through Calahan Missionary Baptist Church. Upon graduating from High School, she came to Cleveland, Ohio, where she joined the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in September of 1960, under the pastorate of late Reverend O. M. Hoover, where she served for many years on Usher Board #2. 

She began her employment history at Halle’s Department store in the food service department where she grew in rank until the closing of the store. She spent the rest of her career working for various fine dining restaurants and was an exceptional cook. 

Barbara was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Felix Nettles and to this union a son was born, Edward Christoper. Barbara had a wonderful personality and was loved by all her friends, neighbors, colleagues, son’s friends and nieces associates and friends. Barbara loved cooking and gardening. She was known throughout Cleveland for her wonderful deserts and her beautiful flower gardens. 

Barbara leaves to celebrate her life: a loving son and daughter-in law, Edward and Denise Nettles. Three dedicated nieces, Elaine Williams, Carlean (Zanual) Johnson, Susan Jennings. A wonderful nephew, James Lyles. Adoring great nephews and nieces, D’Artagnan (Maggie) Lyles, Cortez (Kadaya) Lyles. Carlton (Mary) Ellis, Modestiy (Leonard) Settles. Eight devoted great nephews and nieces: Chloe and D’Artagnan Jr. Green, Alexcis Johnson, Courtney and Cameron Lyles, Leonard Jr., Londen ,Lorenzo Settles and cherished friend Marion Smith.
