Betty Lorraine Cleveland

February 8, 1936 — July 26, 2023

Las Vegas

Betty Lorraine Cleveland was born on February 8, 1936 in Chicago Illinois to Helen and James Cleveland. She was their one and only child. Both preceded her in death. Botty graduated from Englewood High School and attended Wilson Jr. College studying business.

Betty's story began on a sunny day in 1936 and for 87 beautiful years, she graced our lives with her warm smile, outgoing personality, love for a good time and a flair for business.

Betty met Marlin Dixon, the love and soul mate of her life and they married in 1954. Together, they built a loving home, managed several businesses and raised three wonderful children: Deborah, Wayne and Warren (Twins) creating a family structure that was filled with love and happiness.

For years, Betty embraced the vibrant city of Chicago with open arms, leaving her mark by contributing to the community in countless ways. Her passion for knoryknowledgeledge and culture led her to work at the Chicago Public Library, enriching the lives of many through the gift of reading and learning. She was the secretary at St.

Stephens Lutheran Church, a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Neighborhood Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America and the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) President. She was also a member of the International Models Guild and the National Association for Female Executives. Additionally, Betty was the Fundraising Chairperson for a Public Cable TV station, an Insurance broker for the Insurance Exchange and she was appointed to the University Park Public Library Board of Trustees.

Beyond her incredible accomplishments, Betty was a trailblazer in business, owning several real estate properties and her much-loved cocktail lounge, affectionately named Miss B's Club Safari. This neighborhood spot was located on Chicago's south side and was popular for its soul food, down-home blues and a top tapping good time.

After retiring and seeking warmer adventures, Betty took a leap of faith and moved to Las Vegas in 1996, where she built her dream home and discovered a whole new world of excitement and opportunity. Betty's dedication to making a difference remained unwavering as she purchased more real estate and actively participated in various organizations, including the Las Vegas Jazz Society and the Rose Garden Club spreading her love for the arts, music and horticulture.

Betty's zest for life was contagious. Her love for bowling, photography, painting and the movies knew no bounds and she inspired everyone around her to relish in life's simple pleasures.

Travel was one of her greatest joys. She loved cruises and sailed the famous SS Independence of the American Hawaii Cruise liners and The Flavia cruise ship. Betty ventured to far-off places capturing the world's beauty through her lens and sharing it with all she met.

Amidst her busy life, Betty found peace in her garden, tending to her blooms with care and nurturing love - just as she did with her family and friends. Those blooms were a symbol of the love and growth she cultivated in the hearts of all who knew her.

After months of diminishing strength, she was told she had Leukemia. She fought to the end. Betty slipped softly into eternal rest surrounded by family and her fur babies.

Today, we bid farewell to our beloved Betty, let us know that a beacon of love and laughter will guide us through our life's journey. We shall cherish the memories of her infectious joy and carry her legacy forward by living each day with kindness and integrity.

She is preceded in death by her son Warren, Grandsons: Darren and Israel and Great Grand Daughter Tierra. Betty leaves many to cherish her memories: her devoted daughter Deborah (Adam), a loving son Wayne (Jacqueline). Grandchildren: Cassandra, Wayne Jr., Jasmine D, Jasmine T, Jamila, Jackie, Jaimie, Jadelyn, Donna, Mecca, Jordan and
