Bob Topping

Robert “Bob” Topping, Jr. of Henderson, Nevada passed away June 4, 2023 at age 63. Bob was the beloved son of Robert Topping, Sr. and Laura Topping (both deceased); father of Stefanie Gillespie; brother to John Topping, Mary Topping and Kenneth Topping; and uncle or great uncle to three nieces and five nephews. Bob is the former husband of Debra Topping. He is survived by a number of friends from Long Island as well as Henderson.

Bob graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY.  After earning an associate degree from Farmingdale State College in Farmingdale, NY, he worked in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry.

An avid model railroad buff, Bob’s extensive model railroad layout and structures displayed realistic, historical operations to the finest detail. He would walk remote narrow gauge rail lines in Colorado and other states, sketching any historical buildings along the track so he could build them to scale for his layout or sell them to other enthusiasts. Bob earned awards for scratch-built structures from the Patchogue Model Railroad Engineers. He was also an avid sports fan, especially of the New Jersey Devils and New York Jets. Bob enjoyed traveling to Ukraine, the city of Sumy in particular. He taught himself conversational Russian and the harmonica.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held July 21, 2023, 11:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 495 N Ocean Ave, Patchogue, NY. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3442 Route 112, Coram, NY. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Bob’s name to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org
