Catalina Ondina Guerra of Las Vegas passed away after a long, brave battle with cancer (multiple myeloma) on May 10, 2016, at the age of 79. She was born on November 25, 1936, in Pinar de Rio, Cuba, and was a resident of Las Vegas for 55 years. She was the daughter of Luis Cabrera and Dolores Suarez, and was a schoolteacher in Cuba for several years before moving to the United States. She was a homemaker in Las Vegas, and later a hotel attendant, and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Orestes Sr. Catalina was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who was adamant that education was the key to a successful life, and tirelessly cheered her kids and grandkids on through all their endeavors and schooling. Her battle with cancer touched all those around her, who were amazed at her strength and resilience through many treatments. She had a larger than life personality and will be greatly missed. Catalina is survived by her son, Orestes Jr. (Edie) and daughter Elizabeth (Osvaldo), and her grandchildren, Dominic, Aleasa, Sofia, and Antonio. Visitation will be Thursday, May 19, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 South Eastern Avenue.
