Cheryl LaVaughn Evans Murry (77) passed away on January 24, 2025 at the St. George Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah. She was born October 28, 1947 in South Gate, California as the third child of six born to Albert Evans and Reba Irene Doremus Evans.
Cheryl was raised in Henderson, Nevada, where she attended Basic High School. She found the love of her life when she filled in on a blind date for a friend who was sick. She married Paul Arnold Murry when they were both just 18 years old on November 20, 1965.
In her early 20’s, Cheryl worked as a Change Girl for the Lady Luck casino in Las Vegas. In 1972, she and Paul bought their forever home on Montebello Ave, while pregnant with their first child. There, they raised their children with Cheryl as a stay-at-home mom. When the youngest of their children started school, Cheryl started volunteering at his elementary school. After many years of volunteering in the student store and in the office, she was offered a permanent position as a FASA (nurse’s aid). Her years at Gragson Elementary School were filled with new friendships that became old friendships, and the opportunity to care for kids, something she found rewarding and fulfilling.
Cheryl was a skilled seamstress, although she never pursued it as a career. She made many blankets, clothes for her children, matching dresses with her daughter, doll clothes, costumes and even high performance stunt kites.
She enjoyed painting, applying her craft to a variety of media. Her favorites were tole painting on wood and T-shirt painting. She and Paul joined T-shirt painting classes for many years, nearly every week.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her favorite person, her husband, Paul; her sisters Rosa Esplin and Geneva Evans; her brothers Larry Evans and Wesley Evans. She is survived by children Brent (Rebecca) Peters, Belinda (Brady) Brand, Bryce (Kemmie) Murry and Brandon (Jen) Murry; sister Darla (Rex) Livingston; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Davis Funeral Home in Las Vegas (6200 S Eastern Ave) on Thursday, February 6th at 2:00pm. A viewing will precede services at 1:00pm.
