Clairmarie Slaveck (83) of Henderson, passed away on February 11, 2021 in her home with family at her side. Clairmarie was born to the late Marie and Charles R. Vanek on August 28, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from MacCormac Commercial College and worked as a legal secretary from 1956-1964 and later at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
Clairmarie married Richard F. Slaveck in 1961 and together they raised four daughters. She was devoted to her husband throughout their nearly 45 year marriage and cared for him during a lengthy illness prior to his death.
Rich and Clairmarie moved the family from Chicago to Henderson in 1978. Clairmarie worked for St. Viator Parish until 1983 when she began her tenure at Guardian Angel Cathedral. She remained at the Cathedral as business manager until her retirement in 2015.
Throughout her life, Clairmarie was committed to helping others. People from all walks of life sought her guidance and advice. While in Chicago she was a mainstay at St. Gall Parish where you’d find her directing the children’s religious education program or singing with her beloved folk group. Clairmarie joined the Viatorians as an associate in 2009 and made her definitive commitment in 2019.
Clairmarie was the stereotypical matriarch (fondly referred to as “the Colonel”) who cherished time with her daughters, their spouses and her 11 grandchildren. Her generosity allowed three generations to create special memories on four cruises over the past 13 years. Clairmarie also cherished the many trips to Broadway (and Juniors) with her daughters.
Clairmarie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Donna Konecki, brother Richard (Dick) Vanek, sister-in-law Susan Vanek, and husband Richard.
Clairmarie is survived by children: Marivern (Steve) Easton of Dickinson, ND, Debbi (Larry) Praml of Mahtomedi, MN, Bethann (Dave) Corey of Laguna Nigel, CA, and Kristin (Mark) Rich of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren: Gaylemarie Easton, Theodore Easton, Nathaniel Easton, Lauren Praml, Lyndsay Praml, Anthony Praml, Chase Corey, Andrew Praml, Charlie Conser, Isabelle Corey, and Kendall Conser; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13th at St. Viator Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Rd., Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in honor of Clairmarie to the charity of your choosing.
