Cora Lee Moore

April 7, 1939 — February 8, 2013

Cora Moore was born on April 7, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Charlie Mitchell and Mary AdamsMitchell. She was the older of two girls. She moved to the west side of Chicago in 1949 with her mother and sister Dolly, whom both preceded her in death. Cora accepted Christ at a young age and joined the Union Tabernacle Spiritual Church under the leadership of the late Bishop R.l. Ford, she also sang in the choir. Cora was educated in the Chicago public school system. She attended Lawson Elementary School and graduated from Marshall High School. Cora moved to the north side of Chicago and attended St. Marys College where she obtained an Associate Degree. Cora met and married Gilbert Milton Moore, and from this union, six children were born, 3 girls and 3 boys, Milton Earl, her first born, preceded her in death. Cora went on to work for the Chicago Housing Authority, and there she became a community leader advocating for the poor African Americans. She was promoted by the Chicago Housing Authority, as well as the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Cora was a true soldier of Christ she saw a need to help those who were not able or too afraid to help themselves. She became a Civil Rights Leader and partnered with those in the fight for the rights of African Americans, such as the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Angela Davis, and Rev. Jessie Jackson.
