Darlene will live on through her husband Dan Collier, her loving family and friends…
Darlene had a pleasant and gentle personality, and for the 35 years that I was with her, I noticed that everyone she met gravitated to her. (I wish I possessed such a personality). People also remarked how she had a pleasant manner while speaking with them over the telephone. A very selfless individual who thought little of herself and more to the benefit of others. As beautiful on the inside as she was on the out. But she was getting older and weaker in her last few months, and her body was just plain tired and more painful as time advanced. She was having trouble walking. I watched her eventually turn from a strong person to a frail one. About a year ago she started warning me that her time is nearing, and for me not to get too broken up over her passing. She said to mourn her a little, naturally, but to go on living. Her post-stroke life was no life at all. Fragile and half paralyzed, it was a blessing that she passed peacefully at home, rather than go on with the nightmarish, bed-ridden life that would’ve been before her. She would NOT have wanted that path. It would’ve been selfish to try to force her into such a lifestyle, even if I could, just to avoid my own grief of losing her. She would prefer a natural passing rather than a hell-on-earth existence. Now she’s free of the pain, the damage, and the horror of the stroke. So why should I be sad about that? She will be a hard act to follow and I will most certainly miss her. Darlene is in a better place, and it’s best that she goes before me so that she would be spared the heartbreaking grief, had I passed before her. Death is just as natural as being born, so how can it be a bad thing?
Don’t let a single day go by without telling your spouse that you love them…. --Dan
