David Sterling Bunker returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 5, 2016 at the age of 73. David was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 9, 1942 the youngest of four boys to Bryan and LaPriel Bunker. In 1960, David married his first wife Susan Walker and shortly after gave birth to their two daughters, Kimberly and Stacey. He attended classes at Brigham Young University, which led him to work for the family-owned business, Bunker Brothers Mortuary. Later, David married Carol (Haller) O'Connor on September 28, 1970. David, Carol, and her son, Michael lived in Las Vegas, Nevada where they raised several animals and spent many years training their dogs and participating in dog shows, where they won many awards. He took a special interest in collecting guns and riding his Harley motorcycle. David eventually worked for Davis Funeral Homes as Funeral Director. He loved serving the families that he came in contact with through the funeral home, and took a personal interest in comforting them during the loss of their loved ones. David was loved and respected by many that knew him in the community and the families that he served. David had many tender qualities including the kind of care that he showed toward many families that lost their loved ones. David will be very missed by all that knew him, including his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, friends, coworkers, and many more.
David touched the lives of many with his caring personality that was reflected through his relationships within his family and the community. Even though his spirit has left his mortal body, we look forward to being together as a family for eternity. We love you Dad!
He is survived by his wife, Carol, three children, Kimberly (Ron) Castleton, Stacey (Greg) Bess, and Michael Bunker; his 14 grandchildren (and their spouses), and his 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers, Alan (Merle) Bunker, Doug (Barbara) Bunker, and Gary (Carol) Bunker and their children. David was preceded in death by his parents, Bryan L. Bunker and LaPreil Strong Bunker.
The family wishes to express a great appreciation to the staff, especially to Allen Kopp, of the Davis Funeral Homes and for the tenderness that they have shown to David and to our family.
A memorial service in David's honor will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Alta Vista Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (7800 West Alta Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89145). Family and friends are welcome.
