She met her true love, Thomas Marshall, and they were married on July 2, 1955, in Philadelphia. From that union, they were blessed with a son, Clifton Alan Marshall. Delores and Thomas were married for 68 wonderful years and have a beautiful daughter-in-law, Lorraine Marshall, and two wonderful grandchildren, Crystal Marshall and Christopher Marshall. Delores was affectionately known as “Reesy” among her family and close friends, who often called her by that nickname.
Delores devoted herself to Jesus Christ and accepted Him as her Lord and Savior. She was an active member of Tioga United Methodist Church and Janes Memorial United Methodist Church in Philadelphia. In 2012, Delores and Thomas relocated to Las Vegas and found a new home church at Desert Spring United Methodist Church, which they both truly cherished.
Delores loved teaching. Her career in teaching started when she graduated from the Drexel Institute of Technology, now Drexel University, in Philadelphia, PA. She started working for the School District of Philadelphia in 1956. She spent the last 25 years of her teaching career at John Story Jenks School in Philadelphia where she taught the first, second, and third grades.
Delores was a very popular teacher, and many articles were written about her in the city’s major newspapers, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Bulletin. She was the recipient of the Who’s Who in Teaching Award in 1990. When Delores retired after 34 years of teaching, she was given a Citation from the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1990 for her many years of distinguished teaching. In Las Vegas, Delores volunteered at Ollie Detwiler Elementary School and Desert Spring United Methodist Church.
Delores is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Marshall, their son, Clifton Marshall, Daughter-in-Law, Lorraine Marshall, Grandchildren, Crystal Marshall and Christopher Marshall, Sister, Conaza Beall and a host of family and friends.
