Dexter Jerome Clary, age 67, was called to his eternal resting place on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
He was a caring father, husband, grandfather, son and sibling. He is survived by four children, Corey (Michelle), Detra, Lakeyvia (Ricky) and Devin; grandchildren Brianna, Zarion, Zebron, Zayden, Zycoran, Zamar and Zamaya; his brothers Vinson (Ramona), Christopher and Paul (Charlotte), along with his sisters, Norella, Anita, and Princess (David). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
Dexter was one of eight children born to Joseph and Emma Clary on May 10, 1956, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He received his diploma from Clark High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. After which he followed in his eldest brother's footsteps by joining the Armed Services (Army) for a short period of time. Recognizing that he did not wish to make the military his career, he moved on for a brief time to work at the local telephone company (Centel, currently Century Link), before taking on an electrical apprenticeship with IBEW Local 357. During his apprenticeship he worked at the Nevada Test Site.
For a brief time, Dexter joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, however, for the sake of his children, he decided to end his career in law enforcement. Moving forward he would focus on his entrepreneurial pursuits, studying real estate and owning a vehicle repair shop.
Later in life he decided to obtain his bachelor's degree in Computer Science, working for The Mirage and MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He loved playing basketball at Lorenzi Park and chess at The Native Son Bookstore. During his youth he sang in an Acapella group with his neighborhood friends. There probably isn't a buffet on this planet that he didn't like. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of law, computers and financial literacy.
He was presided in death by his mother Emma and brother Joseph Jr. He was followed in passing by his father Joseph on June 4, 2023.
His Going Home Services will occur on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at Davis Funeral Home at 6200 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
