Dowdy Jackson Sr.

Dowdy Jackson Sr. was born July 26, 1930 in Columbia South Carolina to the late John and Charlotte Goodwin Jackson. He departed life to be with his heavenly father on October 12, 2012.

Dowdy was educated in the public schools of Richland county where he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, in Columbia South Carolina. After graduation, Dowdy enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952.Dowdy concluded his military service in 1956 reaching the rank of Electronic Technician Third Class ET3. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, he was employed by US Electrical Motors and later attended the University of California, Los Angeles.

During his college years, Dowdy met and married Barbara Ann Curtis and to this union three children were born, Deborah Ann Jackson, who preceded him in death, Dowdy Jackson II and Kimberly Ann Jackson.

In 1964, Dowdy was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Letter carrier and retired in 1990.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Barbara Jackson, his son Dowdy Jackson II, his daughter Kimberly Ann Jackson, and his grandson, Dowdy Ardea Jackson. He also leaves his two sisters, Margaret Glover of Columbia South Carolina, and Iola Reardon John of Detroit, Michigan and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Arthur and Olivary Jackson, and his three sisters Annie Mae Hawkins, Nellie Stephens, and Johnnie Mae Jackson Jones.
