Edward Mitchell

Edward R. Mitchell, 87, of Las Vegas, NV. Passed away Christmas Day, December 25th, 2015. His long battle with lung and heart problems ended at Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center. Edward was born in November of 1928 to Walter and Lottie Michell in East Alton, IL.

Edward met his sweetheart Audrey in high school while living in Tucson, AZ. They later married in July of 1949 and began their life together in Tucson. Their family grew with the births of their three children: daughter Linda, born in September of 1950, son Dale in August of 1952 and son Eric in September of 1954.

Edward served in the Army National Guard of Arizona as a Radio Operator during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in April of 1952 at the rank of Corporal from the Headquarters Company, 158th Infantry.

Edward and Audrey moved from Tucson, AZ. To Long Beach, CA in 1952. He started working for Douglas Aircraft Company as a riveter on aircraft and worked his way up to become an Aeronautical Engineer for Rockwell International. He worked on the design of various aircrafts including the B-1 Lancer, the XB-70 Valkyrie, and the Space Shuttle. He later retired as an Aeronautical Engineer for Rockwell International in 1986.

After retirement, Edward and Audrey moved to Las Vegas, NV. Where they enjoyed traveling, camping in Audrey's motorhome and taking cruises to: Mexico, Alaska, the Panama Canal and Hawaii. Edward enjoyed playing: Bridge at the West Flamingo Senior Center, Pinochle, and other card games with his family and friends.

Edward is survived by his wife, Audrey and their sons Dale and Eric. He leaves, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Walter; and daughter, Linda.
