Eleanor Rita Richerson (née Buckery) died peacefully at the age of 92 on Wednesday morning May 19, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born June 16, 1928 in McAdoo, Pennsylvania to Ernest and Gizella Buckery.
Her husband Edwin Schuyler Richerson of 53 years preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her siblings Ernest Buckery, Gizella (Sis) Beecher, Bobby Buckery, Joseph Buckery, Betty Hammershock, and Dorothy Buckery; also, her sons-in-law Chris Barry and Rick Templeton and her grandson, Taft Tracy.
Eleanor is survived by her five children: Ron Richerson, Carol Richerson, Nancy Barry, Linda Templeton, and Susan Tracy; her brother Carl Buckery; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor grew up in McAdoo, PA then as a young adult moved to California where she graduated from Woodbury College in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Commercial Art.
While pursuing her education, she worked at a grocery store and also met Edwin who she married on November 27, 1954. She set aside a career in commercial art to pursue motherhood, raising five children while also working full time as a grocery attendant. Eleanor shared a dedication to her faith in God to her children, faithfully taking them to church and teaching them to pray. She loved to dance and would teach her favorites dance moves in the kitchen. Despite growing up during the Great Depression, she loved to share cherished stories of her childhood. In 1972, “El and Ed” moved to Las Vegas where Eleanor began working at Caesar’s Palace in the accounting department.
She enjoyed bowling, fine arts, big band, and classical music. She profoundly demonstrated her love through her actions and was often the one to show up for her family members in their most vulnerable seasons. Holidays and birthdays were hosted in her home for as long as she was able to do so. She was generous, witty, hard-working, responsible, trustworthy, and wise. Her grandchildren have described their beloved matriarch as having spunk, deep care, and true American grit. She is greatly loved by her family. While they will miss her, they are glad she is at peace and with the Lord and her loved ones who have gone before her.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM, at Davis Funeral Home on South Eastern, burial to follow at 1:00 PM. There will be a reception to follow at her daughter Linda Templeton’s home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Catholic Charities. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.davismemorialpark.com. or on the “We Love Eleanor Our Mom and Grandma.” Facebook page.
The family would like to thank Desert View Senior Living and Memory Care for all their love and dedication to her care.
