Elroy H Winters, 93 went to be with his Saviour, wife, parents & friends in heaven after passing peacefully on Friday July 30, 2021 at a Hospice facility in Las Vegas, NV primarily due to a stroke.
- He was born on November 14, 1927 in Waupaca where he grew up and graduated Weyauwega High School in 1945.
- He began working at a a bowling alley and drove a truck for a cheese factory during, and after school, in addition to working on his fathers' farm.
- He joined the Army in 1945 and served during the Korean War in Japan. Because he had truck driving experience, he remained on base. However, though he may have been spared from death on the on the front lines in Korea, he was not spared from the horrors of war: seeing boatloads of young men returning to Japan wounded and suffering. (He first shared his experience in tears with his family at age 93).
- In the spring of 1950, he met his bride Chiyoko Asano Aoyagi and they were married at the US Consulates office in Tokyo on September 13, 1951.
- Upon returning to the United States in January 1952, he began working for Appleton Coated Paper Mill in Appleton, WI where he also built their first home. In January 1953, their first daughter was born and the last of the 5 children would be born on June 3, 1964. He went on to purchase a total of 6 dairy farms, moving from Appleton, to Hortonville, to Leroy to Fond du lac, then to Dale, WI. In 1977 he sold the last farm and auctioned all its contents to purchase apartment rental property in Las Vegas.
- Upon moving to Las Vegas in 1977, he worked multiple jobs: Slot machine mechanic, Armed Security for Casinos and construction sites, while managing the rental property which is still owned today. HE also purchased and operated a dry cleaner/laundromat.
- He was a member of the Lutheran Church and attended throughout the various cities
Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Laura (Marquardt) Winters, siblings, Dennis Winters and Joraine (Leonel) Bucholtz. And his spouse Chiyoko (Aoyagi) Winters.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane (Warren) Jamar of Minneapolis, MN, daughter Sandi Lovell of Las Vegas, NV son, Ron (Melissa) Winters of Las Vegas, son, Steve Winters of Las Vegas, NV, son, Keith Winters of Las Vegas, NV.
He is survived by his grandchildren: Jessica Winters of Huntington Beach, CA, Krysta Winters of Las Vegas, NV, Gracie (David) Hunt of Las Vegas, NV, Damian Winters of Las Vegas, NV, Kelly (Kyle) Kunkle of Las Vegas, NV, Jonathan Buzzalini of Las Vegas, NV, Luke Winters of Las Vegas, NV
His great-grandchildren: Josiah Waialae of Huntington Beach, CA, Brandon and Devin Corr, Shelby Hunt of Las Vegas, NV Liam Ramos of Pamona, CA, Emily, Abel of Phoenix, AZ, Nolan and Ryan Kunkle of Las Vegas, NV.
