Elvira Salazar Bailey's Autobiography
Elvira Salazar Bailey or Elvie is the middle child of eleven children. Her father was a Chemist in Canlubang Sugar Estate, and her mother was a stay home mom. She was raised in a Christian home. Being a middle child, she was competing for attention from her parents and siblings. Even as a little girl, she had a take charge attitude. As a young girl, she stood for her Christian conviction and convinced her parents that she should go to different school because the only high school in her home town was Catholic, and since she was brought up as Baptist, the principles are different. She was the only one in the family to do that. She came to the US right after she finished college in 1969 against the will of her parents; but, she did it anyway.
Elvie met her future husband, Harvey Bailey, right after she arrived through her older sister in San Francisco. They got married a year later, and got involved in managing her husband's business for over 25 years. The business grew from 10 employees to 20 to handle the demands. Elvie was very effective dealing with the Asian community because they trusted her being an Asian herself. Living in San Francisco for almost her entire adult life, a very diversified city with 35 [[][%]] of the population being Asian.
Elvie got involved with different organizations; one of which was a Pampanga organization where she was elected as Secretary for two terms. Elvie also got involved with the Lions Club of Daly City to help and support seniors through fundraising. She was the President of Filipino American Association of Foster City from 1984 to 1986. Elvie and her husband sold their business and moved to Las Vegas in 1999 to pursue another interest. She worked at MGM Resorts for one year at the Human Resource Department. She decided to try another field of work and banking was her choice. She worked at World Savings for 10 years where she was a member of the President Club selling bank products. Elvie credited her banking success to her outgoing personality and knowledge of sales. She retired after her husband passed away in 2010.
Not able to settle down yet, Elvie continued to live a very active life having worked part-time as a banker for Wells Fargo Bank, served as president of the Southern Nevada Filipino-American Association, and officer of the Canlubang Hometown Association. Elvie attended Hope Christian Church and is a faithful supporter of Philippine Mission work with the Mangyan Tribe and Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship.
Elvie then met her boyfriend, Manny Mationg who faithfully and diligently cared for Elvie as she battled with cancer in the last couple of years. Elvie passed away on April 17, 2019 in Henderson, Nevada.
Elvie was a beautiful person inside and out. Loving, caring and generous, she was loved by family and friends. Now absent from the body, she is present with the Lord. No more pain, sorrow or tears, she will celebrate a glorious Easter in God's presence. ""I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me though he dies, will live again"" ( John 11:25) is Elvie's eternal hope.
