Erik Magnus Magnussen Jr. died peacefully on September 17, 2016 at the age of 72 due to complications from Emphysema and COPD at the VA Hospital of Southern Nevada.
Erik is survived by his son Erik III and his wife Stacie; his son Keith; his sister Kristene and her husband Douglas; his Grandchildren Elizabeth, Erik IV, Keith Jr. and Step-Grandchildren Jessica and Gina; his Godchildren Laurie and Kristian and many nieces and nephews.
Erik was the first born of three children in Brooklyn, New York. He was born to Erik M. Magnussen Sr. and Torhild (Christiansen) Magnussen on October 25, 1943. He was brother to 2 sisters; Barbara Joy Zarek and Kristene Krober.
Erik's young life was frequented by many trips to the local doctor for various injuries related to being an active child and numerous broken bones along the way. The doctor would often call Erik's mother to come and pick him up from his office after repairing any injury he had sustained.
Erik graduated from William E. Grady High School in Brooklyn, New York.
Erik proudly served his community and country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. He then continued to serve the City of New York as a Police Officer for over 26 years before retiring at the rank of Sergeant in 1995. While serving his community Erik earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, New York.
Erik was predeceased by his sister Barbara Joy in 2015.
