The funeral service for Ernest Lee Langstraat will be at 12:00 pm, Friday, March 31, 2017 at Davis Funeral Home in Las Vegas, NV with Scott Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Davis Memorial Park Cemetery in Las Vegas. A visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home on Friday.
Mr. Langstraat, 92, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Las Vegas, died peacefully Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his daughter's home in Rochester.
Ernest was born September 21, 1924 in Pella, Iowa to Herman and Anna Brom Langstraat. He was raised on the family dairy farm in Pella. He married Virginia Louis Bohrn in 1943, they later divorced and Virginia died August of 1978. He then married Evelyn I. Phillips May 29, 1947, they divorced and Evelyn died Oct. 6, 1998. Ernie married Lela Mae Shineman in Kansas City, MO, and they were married for 58 years. Lela died November 9, 2013 in Las Vegas. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Des Moines, IA where Ernie worked as a security guard, drove truck for AMF and also worked for APEX Concrete Co. Ernie was a Mason and a Shriner for over 50 years and had a 32nd Masonic degree. After retiring, Ernie and Lela moved to Las Vegas and Ernie worked as a security guard for Caesars Palace and McCarran International Airport. Ernie and Lee loved to go to swap meets and travel.
Survivors include his five daughters, Rosanna (Greg) Gamm of Rochester, MN, Barbara Miller of Ankeny, IA, Connie (Bill) Annis of Newton, IA, Linda Slote of Pahrump, NV, and Bonnie (Art) Andersen of Fort Madison, IA; and one son, Russell Langstraat of Mesa, AZ. Ernie had 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Elmer (Gloria) Langstraat of Las Vegas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Virginia; Evelyn; Lela; two sisters, Ruth Lawrenz and Evelyn Gerhart; and his son-in-law, Max Miller Jr.
The family prefers memorials to The Shriners Childrens Hospital.
