Evelyn P Condo, age 94, died on January 15, 2024, in Sparks, Nevada. She was born February 4, 1929, to Robert and Eva Proctor in their Pleasant Grove, Utah home. She grew up working on the family farm while attending Pleasant Grove Elementary and high school.
Three weeks after graduation, she met Mark Condo, who blew into town to ride Bareback in the 1947 Strawberry Days rodeo.
On July 9, 1947, she married Mark and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada on July 10. As soon as she stepped off the bus into the summer heat, she said "I thought I'd die and gone to hell."
Her son Lyn Condo was born, in American Fork, Utah followed by Sue (Conk) and Debbie (Smith) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
During the 55 years she lived in Las Vegas, Evelyn was active in many callings in the LDS church. These included ward and stake relief society, primary presidency, and den mother for her grandson's cub scout den. Evelyn worked in the Las Vegas temple for 20 years, alongside her husband Mark. Together they served an LDS mission in Cameron, Arizona.
From her days on the family farm, Evelyn always loved growing things. She was often fond of saying that her part in the creation was making flowers. She co-founded the Las Vegas Iris Society. She was a national flower show judge for the American Iris Society, part of the flower arranging guild, and an internationally renowned hybridizer of irises. There are currently over 400 varieties of her irises in Debbie Condo Smith's yard in Sparks, Nevada.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Mark Condo, her parents Robert and Eva Proctor, her sisters June (Ray) Robinson, Mary (Pat) Powers, brother Ray Proctor and Grandson Rick Condo. She is survived by sister Janice (Alman) Clegg, son Lyn (Annette) Condo, and daughters Sue (Phil) Conk and Debbie (Les) Smith. Evelyn is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
