Dr. Filippos Spyridon Diamantis, 86, passed away on Sunday May 24th, 2020, in his home in Las Vegas.
He was born in Greece and graduated from the University of Athens. In 1968 he participated in the Mexico City Olympics as an Athlete & Olympic Team Trainer and was then granted political asylum and immigrated to the United States. He successfully completed his Physical Therapists exam in Atlanta, GA, and after practicing in several hospitals and clinics, moved to Las Vegas and opened his Rehabilitation Clinic in 1972 with his PhD and as a registered physical therapist and FAANaOS.
He was an active member of the Greek American Community, leading the Greek Food Festival in his traditional Greek costume (Tsolias), a symbol of his Greek heritage. He was actively involved in the Parish Council of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, and had also served as president. For many years he was a member of AHEPA, as well as serving as Past Supreme Governor and Past District Governor. He was also a member, as well as President, of ANMA – American Naturopathic Medical Association - for many years, as well as a member of the APTA, WPTA, and New York Academy of Sciences. He was also a long-time member of the Las Vegas Rotary Club.
He was high paced all his life and even though he closed his own practice a couple of years earlier, he still continued practicing part-time. He loved nature, sports, hiking in the mountains and taking care of his back yard full with trees and plants.
He is survived by his only daughter Katerina-Maria Diamantis, former spouse Eugenia
Diamantis and his extended family both in the United States and in Greece. Although it is heartbreaking for his daughter, she is not able to be there physically given the circumstances that have shaken the whole world the past couple of months.
He was loved and will be missed by all.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Davis Funeral Home with burial to follow at Davis Memorial Park. Father John Hondros.
The family would like to please note that if anyone (friends, organizations etc.) wish to send flowers, in lieu of flowers they would like the money to be donated in his memory, for the church ministry and necessities of the parish of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox church in Las Vegas, as would have been his wish as well.
