Fred Ellsworth

March 23, 1930 — December 28, 2016

Fred Calvin Ellsworth

A kind man, loving and caring husband, family man, Master Aviator, Quiet Birdman (QB) and a good fellow has ""Gone West"". A retired Airline Captain from Northwest for 36 years, with over 26,000 hours, has flown on his final flight. On Wednesday, December 28, 2016, his flight pulled into the terminal, his wife, family and friends deplaned and Fred continued west into eternity.
He is survived by his wife Zorheh . They were happily married on November 18, 2003. He will be missed by his diverse family, Sherry, Shahryar, grandson Arta and all others who loved him and his caring heart.
Fred was an accomplished aviator, he travelled the world for many years. He was a QB (Quiet Birdman) a ""Band of Brothers"" who share in the marvels of aviation. After retirement he restored antique aircraft, one a PT-22 (Early Army Air Corp Trainer), which he later donated to the San Diego Aerospace Museum. He was an honorary Director of that museum. He was awarded the rating of ""Master Aviator"" by the FAA, an honor bestowed to very few. His home was a museum of his many accomplishments including photos with Gen. Jimmy Doolittle and Ernie Gann, an author and friend who wrote books, ""Fate is the Hunter"" and ""High and the Mighty"", later made into movies.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. His memories will live forever in our hearts and minds.

HIGH FLIGHT
""Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds -
and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of -
wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence.
Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along
and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
""Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
where never lark, or even eagle, flew;
and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
the high untrespassed sanctity of space,
put out my hand and touched the face of God.""
