Gary Schmidt

Gary Leonard Schmidt, 80, passed away on March 24, 2016 in Las Vegas, NV, with his family by his side. He was born on October 16, 1935 in Buffalo, NY.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Patricia Smith, his mother Irma Schmidt, daughters; Lori (Peter) Van Nuys, Lisa (Jake) Blackwell, and Lynda Schmidt, sons; Mark (Dana) Schmidt, and Michael Schmidt, sister; Judi (Jack) McEvoy, grandchildren; Andrew, Greg, Rachel, Brianna, and Vincent, and great- grandchildren; Derrick and Sieana. Gary is preceded in death by his father Leonard Schmidt, and his brother Brian Schmidt.

Gary was a fireman for the Buffalo Fire Department for 20 years, most of which he spend as Captain. He was also the Captain of the Buffalo Fire Department Bowling and Baseball Teams. He then moved to Sedona, AZ where he owned and operated a hotel and restaurant for years before moving to Nevada in 1984. He then worked for the Nevada Fire Department Test site for 12 years and retired due to medical reasons in 1993. Gary was on a Fast Pitch Softball team for 24 years, he also enjoyed Slow Pitch Softball, Competitive Swimming and Tennis well into his 50's. He was a resident of McDonald Ranch and enjoyed the many residents who live there.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 2657 W. Horizon Ridge Pkwy, Henderson, NV on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 10:00 am.
