George Joey Leslie Ullom IV, 41, of Reno, passed away March 31, 2011. George Leslie Ullom IV was a beloved father, husband, son and brother. He was born in Washington D.C., Oct. 20, 1969. He was a sixth generation Las Vegan, descendant from Robert E. Lake and J.M. Ullom.
He attended Ronzone Elementary School, Brinley Junior High School, and Western High School. He graduated from UNLV with a bachelors degree in Latin American Studies. He went on to receive a masters degree in Spanish from UNLV, a masters degree in multicultural education from Cal State Dominguez Hills, and a masters degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Following graduation, he taught as a teaching assistant at UNLV, and went on to teach at Fay Herron Elementary School and J.M. Ullom Elementary School. He became an assistant principal at Red Rock Elementary School and Paul Culley Elementary School, in addition to teaching empowerment education at Touro University. He was appointed as director of the Mariposa Academy in Reno, in August of 2010. He was an Eagle Scout, and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Rotary, and served as a board member of several educational associations. He was passionate about Latin American studies and bilingual education.
He loved music, art, traveling, poetry and reading. He is survived by his wife, Ashley son Jeffrey his parents, George Joe and Karen and sister, Kristin.
