George Keats Lloyd Jr., 89, of 32 years in Las Vegas passed away May 13, 2014. He was born August 23, 1924 in Brooklyn NY.
A 4 year veteran of the United States Navy, followed on with the US Coast Guard, a combined 32 years service.
He joined the Navy Jan 3, 1942. Served in WWII: Solomon Isl., Marshall Isl., Palau, Guadalcanal, Tulagi, Russell Isl. and the Northern Mariana Islands, mostly on the USS Heywood and others. After the War he stayed in the Reserves in 1959 George was recalled to Active Duty for Korea then he joined the US Coast Guard and retired in 1979 as Chef Warrant 04 at his last station Short Beach, Freeport NY as the Commanding Officer. It is now called Station Jones Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Lloyd. He was a beloved husband and friend. George was a member of VFW Post 10047, the American Legion Post 8, CPOA Chef Petty Officer Association, former member of the Warrant Officers Association, member of the Guadalcanal CampaignVeterans.
