George Ruben McDow was born in Goliad, Texas on May 22, 1950, to parents Thomas and Jewell C. McDow. The second eldest of eight children, George transitioned from his earthly home on September 27, 2019. We will remember George for his selfless acts of giving and being a source of great encouragement both for his family and all whom he encountered.
He became a Christian and was water baptized at a young age by the late Reverend John H. Mosley of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church of Goliad, Texas. As a youth, he would endeavor as choir director, mostly family, in a small church in Los Angeles, California pastored by his Uncle, Ernest C. Johnson. The little choir was definitely joyful and definitely noisy! Later, George became a life member of VFW Post 10047 in North Las Vegas, Nevada and devoted the remainder of his life to serving homeless veterans with food and clothing, mostly out of his pocket. He also attended Victory Missionary Baptist Church of Las Vegas, Nevada working with the community outreach ministry.
George matriculated in school and was a great student. He answered the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force on April 8, 1970. His illustrious career would span twenty plus years culminating honorably with the rank of Senior Master Sargent on July 31, 1991. He was recognized and decorated by the USAF for his leadership abilities including Meritorious Service Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 6 oak leaf clusters and National Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze service star.
In the spirit of excellence in service and training, George also received the Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 oak leaf clusters, USAF Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon with 1 oak leaf cluster and the Air Force Training Ribbon.
George united in matrimony with Alacine Eason (m. 1976-1997). Born to this union was one daughter, Yvette Chantel Eason. He so loved and adored Yvette and was very proud of her accomplishments to include a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Master of Science in Nursing all from the University of Arizona located in Tucson, Arizona. Yvette’s current occupation is a Registered Nurse in Oncology at a local hospital in Tucson, Arizona.
Parents Thomas and Jewell McDow, preceded George in death and he leaves to cherish heartfelt memories his daughter, Yvette Chantel Eason; sisters and brothers: Beverly G. McDow and Kathy J. McDow of Ingleside, Texas; Keith D. McDow and Terrence W. McDow of Tucson, Arizona; Gayle E. McDow (Rosilyn) of San Bernardino, California; Thomas M. McDow (Jeanetta) of Palmdale, California; Mary O. Lowe (MackArthur) of Rancho Cucamongo, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
