Glendon L. Mallette Sr, 90, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017. Glen was born April 3, 1926 in Ogdensburg, NY the son of Allan and Glendora Mallette. A loving and caring husband, father, grandpa, papa, coach and friend to many, resided in Elmira, NY for 46 years prior to moving to Las Vegas, NV where he spent the last 26 years. Glen joined the Marines in 1942 at the age of 16. Upon completing his boot camp and parachute school he then became a Paramarine. His service took him to the South Pacific, the Battle of Tarawa, and then to Guam during World War II. He was very active in sports while serving, participating in Basketball, Football, Track and becoming a boxing champion in two weight classes. Upon his return, he completed High School and then attended St. Bonaventure College. He was married to Sylvia A. Fialkiewicz May 24, 1952 and was happily married for 54 years until the passing of Sylvia in October 2005. Glen had a very successful career working at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 31 years before retiring. Glen's involvement in sports in Elmira, and throughout New York State was one of his greatest passions and where he touched many lives. He was fondly known by many as ""Coach."" He coached Small Fry Football, Little League Baseball and YMCA Basketball. He helped organize the Elmira (Knights of Columbus) Track Club and then formed the Elmira Corning Track Officials Association. He officiated New York State track meets from 1965 to 1989. He also officiated basketball, football, baseball and softball for years. He was inducted into the Section IV Athletic Council of the NY State Public High School Athletic Assoc. Glen also organized and ran the Southern Tier Basketball Tournament for 15 years. Glen was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia. Glen is survived by daughters Cindy Mallette of Las Vegas, NV, Joanne Peele (Larry) of Las Vegas, NV, Marianne Melchionne of Las Vegas, NV; sons Timothy Mallette Sr (Laurie) of Prince George, VA, Kevin Mallette of Lyndhurst, NJ, Glen Mallette Jr (Melanie) of Las Vegas, NV; his girlfriend of 10 years Sharon Setterstrom of Las Vegas, NV; sister Norma Cummiskey of Horseheads, NY; brothers Al Mallette of Horseheads, NY, Ronald Mallette of Buffalo, NY; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many dear friends across the country. A private memorial will be held. His remains will be placed in the Columbarium at Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY where his wife Sylvia awaits him, 54 Great Years, Together Now - Forever.
