On February 8, after a long struggle with pain, the good Lord took into his warm and comforting embrace Hel-n Bernice Spale, daughter of Edward and Marcella (Sally) Sujak. A proud tribal member of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, she had resided in Las Vegas, Nevada these past thirty-three years, yet still considered her birthplace of Chicago, Illinois her home. Years retired from the Desert Inn where many victims of a long Las Vegas night were oftentimes greeted by her cheerful delivery of needed sustenance. Mema, as she liked to be called, was also a voracious collector of enticing recipes seldom made, but always at the ready just in case. A quick wit with an appreciated sense of humor never masked her very 'competitive nature', whether playing Pictionary or Farkle she played to win. However, that nature was most tempered when it came to her beloved grandchildren...with whom she would be extremely positive and patient and find no wrong, as well it should be. Hel-n was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her youngest son Steven Goode, brother Edward Sujak, sisters Carol Smith and Edwina Burch. Hel-n is survived by sisters Verna Shilka, Bonnie McDermott and Arlene Perillat (Gaston), children Lenny Spale, Danny Spale (Della), Pammy Cahill (Bill), Lori Spale, Kenny Spale (Kathy), Kristine Forbes (Scott), and grandchildren Sarah, Shayden of Los Angeles, Blake, Eric, Alicen of Denver, Blair, Kyle, Ryan and Connor of Chicago, Troy, Dana, Shane, Steven and Nicholas of Las Vegas and Adam who lived with and provided much help and support for Mema. Numerous nephews and nieces were also loved by Auntie.
Per her wishes her remains were cremated.
