Helen Ann Corday, our wonderful mom, gramma, sister, and auntie, passed away on April 22, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada with her ever present and most wonderful dog, Rosie, at her side.
Helen was born on December 24, 1927 in Annapolis, Maryland at the Naval Hospital to Audley James Etherington and Jane Margaret (Crone) Etherington. Her father, who was a life-long Navy man, moved his family often and Helen and her little brother Edward ultimately grew up in Los Angeles. As a young woman, Helen moved to Las Vegas and married Michael A. Corday after a whirlwind 3-week courtship. They were married in May 1953 and until his death in 1992. When they met Helen was a cigarette girl at the Desert Inn Hotel and Michael ran the beauty salon there and at the El Rancho Hotel. Helen was beloved by all for her quick smile, generous spirit, beautiful dinner tables, and endless remedies for all that ailed you.
Helen is survived by her son Michael A. W. Corday of Las Vegas, her daughter Chrissa C. Hartney and son-in-law Michael T. Hartney of San Diego, CA, her grandchildren Caitlin M. Hartney of London, UK, and Jonathan C. Hartney of San Francisco, CA, and her sister Margaret Fry of North Carolina.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael A. Corday, her son Craig W. Corday, and her brother Edward Etherington. She will be interred with her husband and her son Craig at Davis Funeral Homes but, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, we will not be celebrating her life formally at this time but ask all of you to toast her with a lovely pint of Guinness. She’d like that the best.
Our family would like to send our sincere thanks to the staff at Prestige at Mira Loma who took such loving care of her. Finally, we thank Alberto Orono for his love and friendship.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Las Vegas Chapter, in her honor.
