Helen Eleni Leas Kalavros, a homemaker, died peacefully at home on November 6, 2010.
She was born on September 10, 1916 in Kalymnos, Dodecanese, Greece, and immigrated to the United States as a child in July of 1922. She settled with her parents in Gary, Indiana where she eventually met her husband and raised her children.
While living in Gary she worked for the Gary Public Library and for Methodist Hospital. Love and devotion to her family prompted her to join them in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1972. It was her love and care for her family that allowed her children and grandchildren to pursue educations and honorable professions.
She is predeceased by her husband,Dr. Mikes Kalavros, and her two siblings, Thelma Hard and Albert Leas, and her nephew Nick Hard.
She is survived by her daughters Irene Felix Valdez, and Thelma Fred Rosenfeld, and her grandchildren Alexandra Elaine Rosenfeld and Patrick Valdez.
Services and burial will be private and officiated by Rev. Father John Hondros of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Las Vegas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Saint Jude Childrens Hospital.
