Herbert HQ Lum, 87, passed away on September 30, 2023 at his home in Las Vegas NV. He was the youngest of 10 children and known to many in the family as "Uncle Babe".
He married Nellie F. Martens May 17, 1958 at St. Aloysius Church in Spokane WA while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He entered the service in 1955 and proudly served his country for four years. From 1961 to 1971, Herbert and Nellie had five children. He lived a colorful life doing a variety of jobs in a variety of locations. His final home being Las Vegas where he used to professionally drive shuttle bus for Coast Casinos (Barbary Coast, Gold Coast, The Orleans and Suncoast).
He enjoyed a variety of food from dim sum to meatloaf with green beans and finished with his favorite strawberry ice cream. He found meals as a way to connect and spend special time with those that he cared about. He enjoyed going to the Suncoast Casino where he connected with many of the employees and played a loud, rousing game of "The Dancing Drums".
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Nellie, parents Frank Wah Yee and Alice Yet Yin Lum, and siblings (Frank Lam, Benjamin Lum, Rose Takamori, Joseph Lum, Bernice Jones, Francis Lum, Vernon Lum, and Clifford Lum) and leaves behind his brother, Gerald Lum, five children, Fred and wife Robin, Mary, Judith, Veronica and Bernard and wife Maria, and three grandchildren, Olivia, Andrew and Matthew.
He touched many lives in his own loving, caring and generous way, giving of himself to others whether they were related or not. His special way and presence will be tremendously missed by those who knew and loved him.
Committal service and interment will be at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City NV, starting promptly at 2 pm on March 13, 2024.
The cemetery can receive flowers the day of the service. The cemetery specified that when ordering, that the florist be given the 1) date of the service and 2) time of service. The florist will deliver day of the service.
