Herbert Joseph Young

Herbert Joseph Young, 92 years of age died on March 3, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Herbert was born into this life on February 8, 1930, to the parents of Haskell and Dorothy Young of Indianola, Mississippi.  His early education began at St. Augustine Catholic School in Memphis, Tennessee.  The family migrated from Tennessee to California where they thrived. 

Herbert graduated from Compton High School in Compton, California.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Hospitalman Second Class.  Herbert met Anne Harrison of Los Angeles, California. and to this union was born a son, Michael Joseph, and a daughter, Patrice Rhondelle.  After ten years of service, Herbert was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1958.

And ten years thereafter, Herbert rejuvenated his life by relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. His life now blossomed with his marriage to Barbara Jefferson of Lubbock, Texas, daughter Regina Yvette and in 1971 they were blessed with the birth of Candice Marie.  Herbert worked for 21 years as a Room Service Manager at the Sahara Hotel until his retirement in 1992.  Herbert was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and at the time of his death, he was a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church where he thoroughly enjoyed being a member of their acclaimed choir.  Herbert loved jazz, attending concerts with friends was one of his favorite past times, bowling leagues were a weekly part of his life for years, and he so cherished the gatherings with friends and loved ones and sharing the good times.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anne Young, wife Barbara Young, daughter Candice Young, and granddaughter Angelina Smith.

Herbert is survived by his son, Michael Young of Moreno Valley, California, daughter Patrice Payne of Fremont, California, daughter Regina Young of Las Vegas, Nevada, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a multitude of caring friends.
