Iris Laurie Wall Obituary:
Our mother, our friend, passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2023 at Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Iris was born in Montebello, California on June 4th, 1948 to Garth Aulden Daniel and Laurie Dawn Daniel. She lived a modest childhood with her brother, Garth, and two sisters, Irene and Debbie, growing up in southern California. At the age of 18, she married John Wall on June 23rd, 1966. Four years later the bore their first child, Michael Wall. Brian and Christian Wall were born 2 and 3 years later. Those three boys were Iris's world.
While her sons were still at a young age, Iris divorced and began the life of a single mother, working tirelessly to ensure her boys had everything they needed. In 1981 she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where her life changed forever. During one of her most trying times, a custody battle for her sons, she was introduced to a Buddhist organization called Soka Gakkai International. A diverse global community of individuals throughout 192 countries and territories who practice Nichiren Buddhism. This Buddhist practice became her life blood, a force that encouraged her to help so many people over the years find peace in their lives. On November 29, 1981, Iris joined the SGI and received her Gohonzon.
After beginning her new life, Iris found a new career path as well, which spanned over 35 years in the home development industry. Her primary position as a Purchasing Agent with Lewis Homes developed a lot more than just homes for families, but relationships that lasted a lifetime. In 1999, KB Home purchased Lewis Homes and Iris finished her career with them after 19 years of service, retiring at the age of 70.
Throughout her lifetime, her devotion to her sons never wavered, nor did her determined commitment toward world peace through her Buddhist practice. Iris held many positions within the SGI from Group Leader, District Leader and Chapter Leader levels. She was also a proud member of the Las Vegas Chorus and member of the History of Nicherin Daishon's Buddhism Division. Her mentor and president of Soka Gakkai International, President Daisaku Ikeda, was always an inspiration to her. Everyday for over 40 years she would read at least one passage of his writings and encouragement.
Iris was loved and respected by so many lives that she touched. Her inspiration, commitment, determination, and her love will live on with so many of us forever.
