James D Rorer, Jr., 80, of Henderson passed away on September 19, 2024 in Henderson, NV.
Doug was born in Lynchburg, Virginia to James D Rorer Sr and Carol Aster Martin on March 3, 1944.
Doug graduated in 1966 from the University of Maryland where he majored in psychology and was a proud member of the marching band and concert band where he played B-flat bass and contrabass clarinet.
He joined the Navy in 1967 as a Naval Officer in the Naval Aviation Squadron VF-51 Fighter Squadron and served on the USS Bon Homme Richard. He left the Navy in 1969 reaching the rank of Navy Lieutenant. He then went on to work for the US General Services Administration and US Department of Energy until retiring in 1999.
In 1970 Doug married Donna Laureen Sanza and went on to have two daughters. Rachel in 1974, and Jill in 1977.
After retirement he started his volunteer work with numerous organizations such as Nevada Rock Art Foundation, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and National Park Service. Just before his passing he was recognized for his 20 years of volunteer service with Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 54 years. His daughter Rachel, her husband Michael Bergmann and their children Paige and Presley. His daughter Jill, her husband Kyle Hall, and their child Atticus.
A celebration of life will be held Friday November 8th at Boulder Dam Brewery 5:00pm-7:00pm (453 Nevada Way Boulder City NV 89005) RSVP is appreciated jkrnh@icloud.com
