James "Jimmy" Lup Wu

December 29, 1949 — June 3, 2021

James (“Jimmy”) Lup Wu, or Lup Tuk Wu, was born in Guangzhou, China on December 29, 1949.  

His parents were Bing She Wu and Bick Chu Yan. James was the youngest of four children, having two older brothers and one older sister. As a pre-teen, his family resettled in Hong Kong where he attended high school. After high school he attended college in Canada. He then moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he worked in the restaurant industry. In his twenties, James moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked for his uncle’s food distribution company. James established a Las Vegas branch of the business in the 1970s. He became a restaurateur and bar owner, helping to develop the new Chinese restaurant community in Las Vegas. He worked in the hospitality industry his entire life.

In the mid 1980’s, James met Janet Ng in San Francisco, California. They were married in San Francisco on May 11, 1985. They had two children, Lauren and James, Jr.  James Sr. loved road trips, nature, and fishing. He frequently organized road trips with his family. He also fished frequently at Lake Mead and other locations. In his sixties, he acquired a fishing boat and went fishing at Lake Mead with friends almost weekly. He also loved food and cooking, teaching his family to cook traditional Cantonese Chinese food.

James survived his wife Janet, who passed away in 2020. They were married for 35 years. James passed away at home on June 3, 2021. He is survived by his older brother Sheung Tak Wu, older sister Man Tak Wu, and his two children.
