Jewell Geneva Brown

Jewell Geneva Brown passed away peacefully in Reno, June 26, 2010, with many members of her closeknit family near her. She was 91.

Jewells husband, of almost 40 years, Carl Edward Brown of Nocona, Texas, predeceased her at the age of 66 in 1979. She leaves behind her four children, Duane A. Brown of Reno, G.E. Brownie Brown of Albuquerque, N.M., Gary D. Brown of Reno, and Darlene K. Flickner of Monterey, Calif.

She also leaves her remaining sibling, Jean Tiny Marcom of Beatty soninlaw, Jim Flickner Darlene and daughterinlaw, Sara Beth Gary. She had seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Her children were all born in Frederick, Oklahoma. She had four brothers who predeceased her.

Jewell was born in Chickalah, Arkansas, February 19, 1919. Jewell and family moved to Beatty in 1952, where Carl went to work at the Nevada Test Site. She lived on her own in Beatty until 2008, when she moved to Reno, just before her 89th birthday.

She was a wonderful cook and seamstress and was famous for her biscuits, cherry cream pie, scratch threelayer German chocolate cake and vinegar rolls. Jewell joined Eastern Star in 1959 and was very active in the Gold Nugget Chapter, Number 15 of Eastern Star. She served in many capacities, including Worthy Matron. She recently got to visit with her namesake and greatgranddaughter, Sophia Jewell Brown and also leaves her newest greatgrandchild, Cole James Flickner, born in May.

Jewell will be buried next to her husband, Carl. There will be a viewing 910 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, with services following, both at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., corner of Eastern and Patrick, in Las Vegas. Burial will follow at Davis Memorial Park.
