Joanne Smith Evans, 83, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away April 4, 2017 at Spring Valley Hospital. Joanne was born July 28, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Joanne was a true blessing to all her family and friends. She was always happy, especially when she was helping others! She was preceded in death by her husband Earl A. Evans Jr and her brother Richard Smith. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Kelson, her brother Marvin Smith, her daughters Marianne Hansen, Carolyn Olsen, Sue Evans, Julianne Call, and her sons Ronald E Evans, John C Evans and Daniel J Evans. She was also blessed with 25 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Joanne was known to be a faithful BYU fan. It was there that she was a Cougarette who danced her way into the heart of Earl who she would be married to for nearly 40 years. After graduating from BYU with her degree in elementary teaching, Joanne taught school in one of the poorer elementary schools in Portland, Oregon. Joanne and Earl settled in Las Vegas after they married in 1957.
A devoted mother to her seven children, Joanne made time to volunteer for the PTA, numerous school activities, the Boy Scouts of America, Deseret Industries, and Sunrise Children's Foundation. Not only did she serve her community, but she served the LDS church in numerous roles throughout her life. She was passionate about helping others who were less fortunate.
A viewing will be held from 9:30am-10:30am on Saturday the 8th of April at the Monte Cristo Chapel (1801 S. Monte Cristo Way). The funeral will be held immediately after at 11:00am in the chapel. She will be laid to rest at the Davis Cemetery at 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV.
