Johanna H.S. Bruton, 93, a retired hotel cashier, of Las Vegas, passed away September 1, 2010, peacefully in her home of 40 years, with her family near.
She was born March 10, 1917, in St. Martin, Netherlands, and was a 50year resident of Nevada.
She moved to Washington, D.C. in her 20s. While there, she met and fell in love with Alpheus Bruton Sr. Together they moved to Atlanta for work she was a teacher and LPN in those years. They eloped to Las Vegas, January 28, 1946, and eventually moved to the city where they wed in 1961.
She took a job as a hotel cashier, a job she loved and retired from after 22 years. She spoke three languages and was a proud member of the Culinary Union. She was also a charter member of the PhilipinoAmerican Club. She loved reading, especially about history and current events. She was loved by all those who met her. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alpheus Cosby Bruton Sr. daughter Jaenette Johanna Hendricka Kavanaugh and numerous brothers and sisters.
Johanna is survived by her sisters, Beulah Wardeker of Curacao, and Corie Krijsman of Holland daughters, Iolanth Bruton and Dorothy Dodie James Forney of Las Vegas sons, Alpheus Bruton Jr. of Las Vegas, and Robert Virginia Rademakers of Florida soninlaw, George Kavanaugh of Reno 12 grandkids and 21 great grandkids.
