John Elias Hunt

John E. Hunt, age 71, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born in St. George, Utah, on August 14, 1949.
Nevertheless, he lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, for 67 years of his life. His parents, John W. and Irene Leavitt Hunt, had six children: Kaye, John E., Alma Glen, Ricky, Sherrie, and Susan.
John grew up in what is now North Las Vegas. He excelled in both baseball and tennis as a youth, and he was part of the scouting program. John worked as a teen in food service, and he had many cherished friends. He also loved motorcycles and building cars.
In 1968, John was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Upon his return, he took classes and found employment. In 1971, John met and married Susan Hobbs.
Just two days after his marriage, John embarked on a career with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. John continued serving as a police officer on what became the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he was a patrolman, detective, and in the Intelligence Division.
John and Susan had three children: Timothy, Rebecca, and Jacob. John was pre-deceased by his son, Timothy, who passed away on July 25, 2020. He is survived by his wife Susan Hunt; daughter Rebecca Hunt; and son Jacob Hunt. Other surviving immediate family members are John’s mother Irene Leavitt Hunt age 92; brother Ricky Hunt; sister Sherrie Frehner, and sister Susan Krygiell.
When John was able, he enjoyed the mountains and deer hunting. Above all else, he loved being with his family. Family meant everything to him.

Viewing – August 28, 2020 from 4 to 6 pm
Funeral Service – August 29, 2020 at 12 noon (by invitation only due to number limitations during Covid 19)
