John Charles Mazurek, age 82, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John was born on June 7, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. John was a decorated U.S. Navy Master Chief and combat veteran. After he retired from military service, John began his second career as an engineer with the County of Los Angeles. John’s life was dedicated to helping others, so he spent his spare time as a Reserve Police Officer with the Long Beach Police Department for 23 years.
In his free time, John enjoyed snow skiing and even taught skiing to the disabled. John also loved to fish, and spent time with family and friends fishing throughout the U.S. and Canada. John loved Christmas, and enjoyed decorating his house for the holidays. After retiring, John moved to Laughlin, Nevada, with his wife, where they made numerous friends. John spent many years travelling, cruising and collecting art.
John is survived by his loving wife, Sybol, his daughter Sam Doyle, his grandsons Michael and Matthew Doyle, and several great-grandchildren. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, California, on Monday March 3, 2025 at 2:30 PM.
A Memorial and Celebration of John's life will be held at the Laughlin Community Church, Laughlin, Nevada, on Monday March 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
