Joycelyn (Joy) Carmen Abarra Ferido, age 37, passed away peacefully, with her loving family surrounding her, on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Dignity Health – St. Rose Dominican Medical Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. Joycelyn was diagnosed with Sarcoma (PNET) Cancer of the Uterus in March 2019. Facing her foe with grace, courage and dignity, she spent the last four months battling this very rare, very aggressive and implacable disease. She fought strong and hard, but the complications of the disease soon continued their inexorable march.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and the entire medical team at Dignity Health – St. Rose Dominican, San Martin Campus for their caring professionalism and comforting compassion especially the ICU-West staff that provided immeasurable support. The family appreciates all of the prayers and concerns extended to us during this time.
Joycelyn was born December 19, 1981, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to the late, Johnny-Pat C. Abarra Sr. and Anastacia M. Kaiahua. She attended the local schools in her hometown of Nanakuli, Hawaii. She excelled in her academics and graduated from Nanakuli High School in May 2000 with honors. She was a member of the High School Band and Varsity Cheerleading Team. In July 14, 2002, she graduated with honors from Heald Business College of Honolulu, Hawaii with a degree in Accounting. Joycelyn moved to Las Vegas in 2004 and had been living with her sister, Joan and her family. Her career started soon after college in the banking industry. She held multiple positions in her career from Bank Teller to Senior Teller at Bank of America for eight years. She continued to challenge herself in the workforce that led her to a successful career in the gaming industry and administrative medical field. In February 2010, Jessie and Joycelyn moved away Joan and her family after they purchased a house together with hopes of starting a family of her own. They shared a happy life together for over 15 years. Joycelyn fulfilled one of her last wishes on June 26, 2019, and married the love of her life, Jessie Ferido.
Joy enjoyed a number of hobbies from scrapbooking to Jiu-Jitsu. Her main interest was spending a lot of time with the people she loved, more importantly, family. She was actively involved in participating in company functions and coordinating activities that brought our families together. She especially loved and cared for all her nephews and nieces. Joycelyn is survived by husband Jessie; parents Anastacia and Donald; sisters Joan and Earline; brothers Johnny, Jonael, Konala, and Dustin; all of her nieces and nephews; and close family and friends. Joycelyn is preceded in death by her Father Johnny-Pat C. Abarra Sr.
