Our beloved father, Juan T. Jimenez, of Las Vegas Nevada, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2021, at his home. He was born in Teolocholco, Tlaxcala, Mexico on March 19, 1923.
He left his home as a very young boy working hard in different towns in Mexico to make a life for himself. He developed a strong work ethic that stayed with him throughout his life. He came to the United States in the late 1940s to Edingburg, TX, where he met our mom Barbara Banda and they started a family. We moved to San Antonio and then to Galveston TX, where he worked in restaurants busing tables, and as a dishwasher. He watched and learned to cook and became a self-taught cook. He never was afraid to learn a new trade.
He came to Las Vegas in 1963, first to find a job, then he sent for us to follow him on the train from Galveston, TX, mom and 8 kids ranging from 9 months and 12 yrs.
He worked 43 years as a Chef at some famous Vegas steak houses including The Flame, Caesars Palace, and the Dunes among others.
He was always happiest at family celebrations in his home for the holidays. Family and home always came first for him. He was a wonderful loving father, grandfather & great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Banda Jimenez of 39 years, two sisters Josefina, and Francisca, and his son Jesus Jimenez.
He is survived by wife Silvia Flores Jimenez and his children and spouses Evanjelina (Harvey) Glinski, Daniel (Tina) Jimenez, Carlos Jimenez, Rosalinda (Steve) Salas, Roberto (Liza) Jimenez, Aurora (Wilferdo) Ponce, Guadalupe (William) Schoeb Lorenzo (Antonia) Banda, 33 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren, and sister Aurora Jimenez Aguila.
The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Serrus and nurse Rosemary for always being caring and quick to help with anything we needed for our dad. We’d also like to thank Maritza Hutchinson and her staff at ProCare Hospice of Nevada for quickly setting up everything to make our dad comfortable and for the compassion they showed to our dad and our family.
Visitation will be 10:00 am-12:00 pm on Tuesday the 21st of December. Services will follow from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Davis Funeral Homes & Memorial Park, 6200 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
Our father, Juan Jimenez, fought a good fight in his life, always keeping his love and faith in the Lord, and his strong love for his family. He has earned his wings to soar to heaven into God’s arms and all his loved ones as they wait for him in paradise. Rest in peace Daddy.
