Julie Heng, 59, of Las Vegas, NV passed away on August 17th 2021 in Las Vegas, NV.
Julie Heng was born in Poipet, Cambodia to Chheav Heng and Seng Kim Hoy on April 15th 1962.
During her childhood, she was surrounded by an abundance of loved ones: parents, many sisters, brothers, cousins, aunt and uncles. She cherished many great memories but unfortunately, those good days came to an end when the Khmer Rouge took power over the country during her high school years…
She survived a grueling 3 years, 8 months, and 20 days under the Khmer Rouge rule and eventually made her way to the United States at the age of 19 to Peoria, IL. Not knowing the culture and language, she pushed herself to learn anything and everything she could and became a seamstress learning how to knit and sew. Ultimately, she moved to Las Vegas, NV as part of the first-generation Khmer refugees here and worked for a fashion designer with her handmade clothing being sold at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Marshall Rousso. In 1989, Julie became a U.S. citizen. That was a very proud moment for her.
After the designer unfortunately went out of business, Julie was employed in the gaming industry with many casinos starting as a dealer, then held many other positions such as a change person, booth cashier, customer service representative, slot ambassador all the way to dual supervisor and assistant manager for the slot department in Monte Carlo/Park MGM. The family was so proud of all of her accomplishments and making her way up the ladder.
Although Julie loved working, she had to take an early retirement to focus on her health. During this time, she enjoyed cooking, traveling, hiking, camping (with an RV) and being in nature. She was energetic, strong, courageous, talented, and adventurous.
Julie Heng is preceded in death by her parents Chheav Heng, Kim Hoy, her sisters Kim Yin Heng, Kim Say and Kim Heang, and many other family, relatives and friends through the killing fields in Cambodia…
Julie Heng is survived by her husband, Hom Heng; daughter, Romony Heng; son, Jonathan Heng; brothers, Sambath and Sambo; sister, Kim Hay; niece, Tracie Campbell.
Viewing will be 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Thursday August 26th, 2021 at Davis Funeral Home 6200 S Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89119.
The family of Julie Heng wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. James D Sanchez and his staff at the Comprehensive Cancer Center for helping Julie fight metastatic breast cancer these last few years.
