Kathleen Kay Endres, 87, a homemaker, of Carson City, passed away December 16, 2010. She was born in Hagansport, Texas, October 28, 1923, raised in Galveston, Texas, and was a 42year resident of Nevada.
Kathleen will always be remembered for her love of family. She was also known for her quick wit, inventive mind, Texas pride and home cooking. Together with her husband, of 44 years, James T. Endres, Kathleen coinvented and holds the patent on the Walker Carrier, a flexible carrying device for walkers, which they patented in 1989, before other such devices were commonly available. By hand, Kathleen created the carrier models. She contributed to the war effort in 1945 by working as a parachute mechanic, packing parachutes for servicemen overseas, at the U.S. Army Air Forces, Galveston Army Field.
In 1946, she was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Marys Cathedral in Austin, Texas. She and Jim were married June 17, 1946, in Faribault, Minn., where they lived until 1957. There she raised her family, kept a home garden and minifarm and won acclaim for her cooking and restaurant fried chicken.
Prior to moving to Las Vegas, they resided in San Diego and San Jose, where their youngest child was born. As her grandchildren were born, Kay took great pleasure in watching over them and in later years was especially happy walking her youngest granddaughter to school.
After her husband passed away in 1990, she resided in Henderson until 2005, when she moved to Reno, and later Carson City. Her joy in being with her family will be greatly missed.
The family extends thanks for her care to Mountain Springs Assisted Living and Waltons Funeral Home, both in Carson City, and Saint Marys Hospice.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, James Endres and parents, Vertis and Della Wilson.
Kathleen is survived by her six children, Sally White Bill or Salem, Oregon, Kathy Gooch David of Spokane, Washington, Jim Endres Stacy of Reno, Jerry Virginia of Reno, Jean DeMeo Joe of Henderson, and Tess Davis of Henderson. Also surviving are grandchildren, Nick, Lainie, Mandy, Scott, Jacob, Kyle, Karli, Gabrielle, Joey and Claire and greatgranddaughter, Kailey.
