Kathleen Sue Jones was born on February 14, 1949 in New Castle, Indiana to Chester Neri Watters and Eva Frances Watters. Kathy spent most of her childhood living in La Grange, Indiana with her younger brother Kevin Watters. The family moved to Howe, Indiana when she was older. During Kathy's youth, she enjoyed spending time with family members Dick and Carolyn Williams, Uncle Bud, Aunt Ruth, Uncle Luther, Uncle Homer, Aunt Jean, Dewayne, as well as Jackie and Charlie, being fortunate to have much family surrounding her. Kathleen attended LaGrange High School, where she played the clarinet and was an avid reader.
After high school, Kathy began schooling at Anderson College to become a teacher. After her dad was in a serious car accident with a train, she had to discontinue the schooling. Before Kathy would have the opportunity to return to school, life took a turn and she met Michael Bruce Jones. Together with Michael, whom she had met while working at the Indiana Toll Road Glasshouse, she would begin her own family. The two were married in February of 1969. Kathy Jones had her first child, Michael Bruce Jones Jr. in June of 1970. Her second child was born in April of 1975, daughter Cassandra Nicole Jones.
Family life was Kathy's priority and joy. She found motherhood very rewarding and was good to her children. She was proud of Michael, her son, and coached his Special Olympics team in Texas. They won the state championship in basketball that year. They had a special relationship and lived together until her last days. Kathy loved dancing and music and red roses. Kathy loved life. She also found a passion for computers, and successfully pursued a career working with them. Kathy was not only a loving mother and wife, but a strong provider for her family
Kathy's ambition for making a nice life for her family while working, took her from Indiana, to Texas, then to California where she would spend nine years. In 1997, with her children grown, Kathy, Mike and Michael Jr. made the move to Las Vegas, Nevada where she would continue her career in database administration with the Clark County School District until she retired. She ended her 38 year marriage with Mike after establishing new lives in Las Vegas. She had much to keep her busy. Kathleen Jones was a woman with many talents and found her true passion making wood art, crafts and paintings. In 1999, daughter Cassandra would follow to a new life in Nevada as well, to be close to her supportive mother in need of a fresh start.
Kathleen and Cassandra were always close. Cassandra credits her mother for her support through difficult times and endless understanding. Kathy taught Cassandra to see the best in everyone as she did, and taught her to give the gift of a generous heart. Cassandra's friends would call Kathy mom and would be welcomed with hugs. Kathy's reward for being a good mother and friend came with the arrival of Cassandra's children, her grandchildren. Nothing brought Kathy more joy than being a Grandmother to Skylar Jones and Samuel LeFave. She and her first grandchild, Skylar, shared the love of reading and together they would enjoy books, watch television and played cards. (Kathy was known to have a sharp gin rummy game!) With grandson Sammy, she enjoyed playing computer games and reading to him and with him. To say that Kathy was proud of her daughter and how she raises her children would be understated. She wished every dream for both her children and grandchildren. She literally, wished some dreams into life.
Cassandra married Christopher Barcelo in 2012. Chris was everything Kathy had hoped for the family. He was another son to her and a perfect father for her adored grandchildren. The wedding was a notable time of joy in Kathleen's life. She imagined just one more grandchild in the mix. As her health was declining in 2016, she had a moment when she asked Cassandra to bring her the blue eyed baby boy that had not yet been conceived. Kathy would recover and live to see her third grandchild, Miles Barcelo, a blue eyed boy, join the family a year later.
On April 10, 2017 Kathleen Sue Jones passed on. Kathy fought hard with health issues to stay longer, to see that her dreams for her family would come true. She succeeded. She was selfless in her love for those she left behind. She is survived by eldest son Michael Bruce Jones, and daughter Cassandra Nicole Barcelo, son in law Christopher Barcelo, and grandchildren Skylar Katherine Jones, Samuel Gene LeFave, and Miles Candido Barcelo. She is also survived by brother Kevin Watters.
