Kendall Ellis McDonald
April 25, 1978 – May 4, 2021
Kendall McDonald was born at Fort Bliss, TX and as a “military brat,” he enjoyed traveling the United States and the world, actively engaged in the culture of the land. While living abroad (Germany and S. Korea), he embraced the customs and learned the languages. He had a hunger for knowledge, loved exploring history, and fighting for a more equitable world.
In his early years, Kendall understood the value of connecting with one’s roots, embraced his African heritage, and yearned to build community. During high school and college breaks, he served at a prominent surgical clinic as the first student employee, setting a high bar for all that came after him. This foundation of determination and intellectual prowess earned him a scholarship to Prairie View A&M University, where he matriculated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering Technology. In 2002, Kendall moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he continued the family’s legacy of service, politically and socially, and later through his career at Clark County School District for over 10 years.
Kendall was a miracle – he persevered through a challenging medical journey throughout his days. His knowledge of holistic medicine was immense, often sharing remedies years before they became commonly known. He was an intellectual and free spirit, unbound by societal norms – steadfast, he valued truth, justice, and excellence. Ultimately, his greatest joy and role in life was being a loving father to Amelia. Having embraced his heritage, he learned to play the djembe and loved exposing his daughter to African style dances and drum circles.
Kendall’s journey is now complete, and he is with our Lord. May he rest in peace.
Services for Kendall will be held at 6pm on May 20, 2021 (Thursday) at Davis Funeral Home in Las Vegas, NV.
